What is VAT?

Therefore, let us understand VAT in simple terms now. VAT means value-added tax. It is a consumption tax they impose at each step of the productive and distributive process.
Consumption Tax
All “value added” taxes are levied at each stage of production and distribution.
Picture a product that moves from raw materials to finished goods on a store shelf. VAT is added at each stage of this (manufacturing, wholesale, retail) based on the product’s higher value. VAT paid in the final price is paid by the final consumer.

VAT Calculation Formula

Calculating VAT will require a formula. We have given that formula below. To calculate VAT, multiply the original price of the product or service by the applicable VAT rate. The formula is:

VAT = Original Price × VAT Rate.

VAT Calculation Examples

Now we will calculate VAT here based on the formula given above.

We take two examples: 1. If an item costs $ 100 and the VAT rate is 10 %, the VAT would be $ 100 × 0.10 = $ 10. The total price, including VAT, would be $ 110.

2 . Similarly, if the VAT rate is 20%, the VAT for a $ 100 item would be $ 100 × 0.20 = $ 20. The total price would then be $ 120.
